Hallo ihr Lieben,

es hat lange gedauert, bis ich es geschafft habe, diesen Blogbeitrag zu schreiben. Ich war nach der Montenegro-Reise noch viel unterwegs, und ich hatte fast 2.000 Fotos, die mir zur Auswahl standen. Aber besser spät als nie – denn ich möchte euch auf jeden Fall dieses tolle Land Montenegro zeigen! Also bereitet euch auf eine lange Lesereise vor 🙂

Erstmal muss ich ehrlich sagen, dass ich anfangs nicht ganz so begeistert von der Idee war, 8 Tagen in Montenegro zu verbringen. Meine Eltern wollten aber hin und ich wollte unbedingt meine Eltern sehen. 🙂 Ich bin ihnen aber unglaublich dankbar, dass alles so super geklappt hat.
Sie haben nicht nur den ganzen Reiseplan vorbereitet und alles organisiert, sondern auch mit großen Geduld die meisten Fotos von mir gemacht und sind mit dem Auto über zahlreiche Serpentinen zu allen Orten gefahren, wo ich hinwollte. Also vielen herzlichen Dank, ich habe es wirklich zu schätzen gewusst.

In Montenegro haben wir ein gemütliches Appartement in der Nähe von Tivat gehabt. Wenn es um einen Strand-Urlaub geht, dann bin ich immer sehr froh, wenn ich nicht direkt in einer Großstadt bin, sondern irgendwo, wo man auch Ruhe und keine von Touristen überfüllten Strände vorfindet. Der Ort lag in einer ruhigen Bucht. Fast jeden Morgen konnte ich diese wunderschöne Aussicht genießen.

Wir sind aber auch fast jeden Tag mit dem Auto verreist.

1. Herceg Novi
Das war die erste Stadt, die wir besucht haben. Wir haben dahin von Lepetani aus eine Fähre genommen. Das Foto habe ich in der Nähe der Fährstation gemacht.

In Herceg Novi haben wir die Zitadelle besucht. Diese kleine Festung hat früher eine große Rolle für die Stadt gespielt. Sie wurde mehrmals zerstört und wieder restauriert. Von hier aus hat man einen wunderschönen Ausblick auf die Altstadt.

Durch die Altstadt sind wir zu Fuß gelaufen. Es gibt hier schöne alte Häuser in süßen engen Sträßchen, gute Restaurants und Cafes. Die Stadt ist sehr nett und angenehm zum Spazierengehen.

2. Budva
Budva hat eine schöne romantische Altstadt am Hafen, die damals ein Piratennest gewesen ist. In 80er Jahren wurde die Altstadt durch ein Erdbeben zerstört, aber danach wieder schön aufgebaut. Die Stadt hat sympathische gemütliche schmale Gassen mit kleinen Boutiquen und Cafés.

Auch in dieser Stadt gibt es eine Zitadelle mit wunderschönen Ausblicken auf die Stadt.

Am Tag war es mega heiß und wir haben uns entschieden, einen Bootsausflug einer Badeinsel zu machen. Ich liebe Bootsfahrten, weil man da auch die Möglichkeit hat, die Städte und die Natur von der Seeseite, aus einer anderen Perspektive zu betrachten.

Auch die berühmte kleine Insel Sveti Stefan gab es hier zu sehen. Die Hotelinsel ist für die Öffentlichkeit nicht zugänglich, sondern nur für Gäste des Hotels und Restaurants erreichbar.

Die Badeinsel Sveti Nikola wird im Volksmund wegen dem wunderschönen klaren Wasser auch “Hawaii” genannt. Die Strände auf der Insel sind sehr steinig mit einigen Felsen. Ich fand das sehr interessant. Auf der Insel gibt es auch zwei Restaurants und zwei Cafes. Ebenso findet man hier Duschen, Liegestühle, Umkleidekabinen usw.

3. Kotor
Am dritten Tag haben wir einen tollen Ausflug nach Kotor gemacht. Die Stadt ist wirklich sehr empfehlenswert! Kotor gehört zum Unesco-Weltkulturerbe. Jeden Morgen kommen riesige Kreuzfahrtschiffe mit Touristen hier an. Die Stadt ist ein absolutes “must visit” für jede Montenegro-Reise!

Was mich aber am meisten beeindruckt hat, ist nicht nur die Altstadt, sondern die unglaublichen, märchenhaft schönen Aussichten, die man von oberhalb der Stadt genießen kann.

Der Weg nach oben ist nicht einfach (1400 Stufen), aber es lohnt sich auf jeden Fall. Der Blick über die gesamte Bucht von Kotor ist einfach unbeschreiblich und werde ich nie vergessen.

4. Nationalpark Lovćen
Der Ausflug nach Lovcen hat uns einen ganzen Tag gekostet. Der Weg zum Park ist mühsam, ziemlich lang und kurvig. aber es hat sich gelohnt!
Es wird immer empfohlen, die Hinfahrt von Budva durch Cetinje zu machen und zurück in die Bucht von Kotor. So haben auch wir es auch gemacht. Vom Mausoleum aus öffnet sich ein fantastisches Panorama.

In diesem Jahr brannten leider in Montenegro viele Wälder, deswegen seht ihr auf den Bildern leichten Rauch.

Dieses Interessanten Steinmännchen habe ich auch in der Nähe des Mausoleums entdeckt. Da saß auch ein Junge, der sein Steinmännchen gefertigt hat. Als ich ihn gefragt habe, wozu er das macht, hat er mir gesagt, dass er sich jetzt natürlich eine Legende ausdenken könnte, aber ehrlich gesagt, hatte er wohl selber keine Ahnung. Es machte ihm Spaß, und den Moment wird er wahrscheinlich nie vergessen.

Auf dem Rückweg könnten wir noch atemberaubende Landschaften von Kotor genießen.

5. Gospa od Škrpjela und Perast
Gospa od Škrpjela ist eine künstliche Insel in der Nähe vor Perast. Auf der Insel wurde eine serbisch-orthodoxe Kirche errichtet. Am 22. Juli gibt es eine Tradition, dass die Leute Steine ins Wasser werfen und daran glauben, dass die Insel dadurch größer und stärker wird.

Die zweite kleinere Insel vor Perast ist Sveti Đorđe. Auf dieser natürlichen Insel befinden sich ein Kloster und ein Marinefriedhof. Viele Leute nennen diese süße Insel sehr mysteriös „Toteninsel“.

Perast ist die niedlichste charmante Stadt, die ich jemals gesehen habe.

Die Stadt wird oft als Stadt der Millionäre genannt. Aber nicht, weil die Einwohner hier sehr reich sind, sondern weil die Immobilien hier ab 1 Mio aufwärts kosten.

Wir wollten unbedingt auch den Norden von Montenegro anschauen. Deswegen haben wir auch ein weiteres Appartement dort gebucht, weil man an einem Tag unmöglich alles anschauen konnte.

6. Kloster Ostrog
Auf dem Weg zur Durmitor-Nationalpark haben wir das berühmte Kloster Ostrog besucht.
Ich habe da nur ganz wenige Bilder gemacht, weil ich finde, dass man Respekt den Gläubigen gegenüber haben sollte. Sie kommen aus verschiedenen Ländern hierher, um den Heiligen Vasilije anzubeten, dessen körperlichen Überreste im Kloster aufbewahrt werden.

7. Tara Brücke und Tara River Canyon
Die Brücke ist sehr beeindruckend, 150 m hoch und 365 Meter lang.

Die Höhe ist krass und der Ausblick von der Brücke auf den Tara Fluß und die Schlucht ist einfach phänomenal!

Auch die Tara-Schlucht ist sehr sehenswert. Die hohen Berge, schönen Wälder, und das kristallklare Wasser des Tara-Flusses sehen beeindruckend aus.

Am Fluß werden die unterschiedlichsten Freizeitaktivitäten angeboten, die man am besten im Voraus buchen sollte – die populärste davon ist Rafting. Wir hatten dafür nicht genügend Zeit, aber das ist ein perfekter Grund, um Montenegro nochmals zu besuchen.

8.Savin Kuk
Wir haben ungefähr eine halbe Stunde gebraucht, um mit zwei Seilbahnen nach oben zu fahren.

Hier kann man auch sehr viele ausgedehnte Wanderungen machen, was bei vielen Touristen sehr beliebt ist.
Schaut ihr nur diese Bilder an…das muss man live sehen. Ich würde euch aber empfehlen, warme Sachen mitzunehmen, weil es im Norden Montenegros insgesamt etwas kühler ist als im Süden. Besonders hier oben in Bergen kann es sehr frisch werden.

9. Der Crno jezero
Ein ruhiger, wunderschöner Ort mit fantastischen Landschaften. Der Schwarze See besteht eigentlich aus zwei Seen. In der trockenen Jahreszeit werden diese zwei Wasserflächen oft voneinander getrennt.

10. Skadar-See
Als wir vom Norden zurück nach Tivat kamen, haben wir am nächsten Tag der Skadar See besucht.
Den See kann man nur mit einer Bootsfahrt erreichen. Es gibt zahlreiche Ausflugs-Angebote dafür.

Je nach Jahreszeit kann man von Boot aus die wunderschöne Berg-, -Tier und Pflanzenwelt mit Pelikanen und Seerosen beobachten. Wenn ihr die Möglichkeit habt, nehmt lieber ein kleines Boot. Wir waren mit einem größeren unterwegs und dürften damit aber leider nicht nah an die Seerosenfelder heranfahren.

Am Ende noch ein paar Bilder von Sonnenuntergängen. Diese sind in Montenegro besonders schön!

So – das war’s eigentlich, was ich euch zeigen wollte. Ihr seht selbst, wie vielfältig Montenegro ist. Hier gibt es fast alles: Meer, Gebirge, Seen, Wälder, interessante Städte.
Ich könnte euch noch mehr erzählen und zeigen, aber ich fände schön, wenn ihr selbst die Möglichkeit in die Hand nehmt, diese Interessanten Orte zu entdecken. Ich kann euch Montenegro wirklich sehr ans Herz legen! Es war eine meinen schönsten Reisen, die ich in letzter Zeit gemacht habe.

yes, it took a while until I found the time to write this article. Even after my visit to Montenegro I was busy and on the road a lot. Additionally I had over 2000 photos to choose from. But better late than never, right!? I am eager to share this wonderful trip in detail with you. Get ready for a nice read; this will be a long one 🙂

To be honest I was not very fond of the idea to spend 8 days in Montenegro. But my parents wanted to go there pretty bad and I wanted to see them 🙂 In retrospective I am grateful to them from the bottom of my heart, because they put a lot of effort in planning this trip and also put up with me. They made a big chunk of the photos and drove through a lot of serpentines and difficult terrain to all the places that I wanted to visit. So thank you a lot, I really, really appreciated that!

In Montenegro we had a cozy small apartment close to Tivat. When I do a trip to a beach area, I am always very grateful not to have a big city all around me, but go somewhere where I can get some rest and where I don’t have a whole lot of other tourists around me. The place was located in a quiet bay. I was lucky to be able to have this nice view every morning.

Nearly every day we took the car to go to some magnificent places:

1. Herceg Novi
This was the first city we were visiting. We went there by taking a ferry from Lepetani. I took the photo near the ferry-station.

We visited the citadel in Herceg Novi. It played a big role in the history of the city. It was destroyed several times and rebuilt. From this little citadel you have a very nice view onto the old town of Herceg Novi.

We then took a stroll through the old city. There are so many historical houses in cute little streets. Also there are restaurants with high quality food and treats and also a lot of cafes. You feel very comfortable in the inner city and it is pure joy to have a walk there.

2. Budva
Budva has a very romantic old city area located at the harbor. In former times it’s said to having been a place that pirates preferred. In the 80s, the old city was destroyed by an earthquake, but rebuilt as beautiful as it has been before. Everywhere in the city you can find those narrow alleys with little boutiques and cafés.

Also in this city they have a citadel with a wonderful view down to the city.

During daytime it was very hot so we made the decision to go on a boat trip to an island where you could swim. I love boat trips, because you always get the possibility to see the cities and the natural features from the seaside and from a completely different perspective.

Also the very famous little island Sveti Stefan is located here. It is a “Hotel Island” that is not accessible for people who are not staying in the hotel or visiting the restaurant.

The “swimming island” St. Nicholas is also called “Hawaii” by the locals, because of the very bright clean water. The beaches of the Island are mostly stony and rocky. It was very interesting to see. On this island you also don’t miss out on any comfort:
They have two restaurants and two nice cafes, they provide showers, deckchairs and changing rooms.

3. Kotor
The third day we took a nice trip to Kotor. I really can recommend visiting this city. Kotor is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Every morning many cruise ships are arriving, bringing tourists to the island. The city is an absolute “Must-Visit” for everyone who comes to Montenegro.

I was impressed the most not only by the old city, but also by the intense view that you have when you take the effort to walk up to a higher location above the city. It’s really worth it!

The way up is not that easy (it’s over 1400 stairs), but you get a LOT for that. You see the whole Kotor bay and the land around it. It’s hard to explain how amazing it is and I will never forget it.

4. National Park Lovćen
We took a whole day to visit the National Park in Lovćen. The way there is laborious, long and curvy but all the hassle is really worth it once you finally arrive there. The tourist Information advises to go there from the direction of Budva through Cetinje and to take the route back through the bay of Kotor. So we did it just like that. You get access to an amazing panorama in front of the mausoleum.

During this year, there have been a lot of fire incidents in the forests of Montenegro. That’s why you see slight smoke on the pictures.

I found those really interesting stones figures close to the mausoleum. There was a boy who also created some stone figurine. I asked him why he does that and he answered that he of course could invent a legend or backstory, but I think he was just happy doing it. It was a lot of fun for him and he seemed very content to have someone ask him for it.

On the way back we enjoyed the breathtaking landscapes of Kotor.

5. Gospa od Škrpjela and Perast
Gospa od Škrpjela is an artificial island close to Perast. On the island, there has been built a Serbian orthodox church. On the 22nd of July there is a tradition for the people to throw stones into the water. They believe, that the Island will grow bigger and stronger that way.

The second small island close to Perast is Sveti Đorđe. On this natural Island you find a monastery and a marine graveyard. A lot of people are calling this quiet and peaceful place “the island of the dead”. Very mysterious!

Perast is just the cutest most charming city I ever saw!

It is called the city of millionaires. That’s not because all the inhabitants are very rich, but because all the real estate is priced one million or more.

We really wanted to see the north of Montenegro also, so we booked a second apartment there because it is impossible to fit all the locations into just one day.

6. The Monastery of Ostrog
On our way to the Durmitor-National Park we paid a visit to the Monastery of Ostrog. I didn’t make a lot of photos there, just because I think you should respect the faithful coming here from all over the world to worship the holy Vasilije. His bodily remains are kept in the monastery.

7. The Tara Bridge and the Tara River Canyon
I was most impressed by this bridge! It’s at a height of 150 Meters and about 365 meters long!

The height is frightening and the view from the bridge on the Tara River and the Canyon is just phenomenal.

Also the Tara-Canyon is worth seeing. The high mountains, beautiful forests and the crystal clear water of the Tara River are really an impressive sight!

At the riverside, they offer various leisure time activities. You should really book them in advance. The most popular one is rafting. We didn’t have enough time for that, but I think it is the perfect reason to visit Montenegro again.

8. Savin Kuk
We needed about half an hour to get on top of it with a cable railway.

Tourists like to go for hiking here. Just look at those pictures, it’s even more impressive in reality of course. But think of warm clothes when you go up there! In the north of Montenegro it is much cooler than in the south. Especially up here in the mountains it can be really frosty!

9. The Crno jezero
A quiet, wonderful place with phantastic scenery. The black lake actually consists of two lakes which are separated in the dry months of the year.

10. Skadar Lake
As we returned from the north to Tivat, we visited the Skadar lake on the next day. You can visit the lake when you take a boat trip. There are countless excursion offers for that.

Depending on the time of the year you can see the wonderful mountain view from the boat and also the fauna and flora like pelicans or water lilies. If you have the possibility, you better take a small boat. We have been in a bigger boat and they are not allowed to come too close to the water lily fields.

Here you see some photos of the sunsets. In Montenegro these are truly exceptionally beautiful.

So, that pretty much wraps it up. That’s everything I wanted to show you! You saw yourself how nice Montenegro is. It is so diverse! You find everything there! The sea, mountains, lakes, forests and a lot of very interesting cities!
I could have shown a lot more, but also I don’t want to spoiler everything. I hope you get a chance to visit Montenegro yourself and go on an “expedition”. I really can recommend it. It was one of my favorite trips I made recently.
